PEBBLESTORM:
A system of purposeful work that enables people to live with more fun, more freedom and more money all at the same time. It's based on having a network of people who take a 20 year view of the value and enjoyment of handshake-trusting each other while creating new ventures. PebbleStorm is a system of ideas around how to build this kind of social network of trusted, long-term relationships in a way that enables hyperproductivity (tiny effort = ginormous output).
When you can
- Bring together a diverse group of people who know their unique geniuses (= unique * passion * talent)
- Create a low-risk, trusted environment of business prototyping (not just product prototyping) and experimentation
- Have the right system of incentives to reward and grow valuable outputs
...amazing things will happen.
There are a few simple rules for ideas and projects in the 'first two circles of focus' (the ideas stage and mashups/experiments stage; once a prototype starts generating revenue and deserves more investment, it'll begin to look like a normal company)
1) Every project must have 2-4 principals (no more(?), no less)
- There can be unlimited revenue-sharing project-based collaborators or affiliates
- As of Sept '07, I'm totally guessing about this 2-4 number!
- Perhaps the maximum is 7+/-2, depending on the trust and experience of the group with each other
2) No one can own more than 50% of any one project
3) No legal paperwork between partners until the first dollar of revenue is imminent
4) The focus must be on productivity and hours-invested-to-launch rather than speed (speed kills!)
- How can you create a profitable business with just four hours of work? It's possible if you don't worry about how many weeks/months it takes.
5) The total upfront investment must be less than $__ ($10k?) per project prior to launch
6) If someone adds value/contributes to your project, find a way to add twice as much to theirs (a pay-it-forward incentive)
6) To take the timing pressure of the projects, principals cannot depend on the projects for immediate income. If they aren't financially independent, they must have some other source of income.
- For myself & Ryth, it's BlackBox Revenues (which also forms the platform for many other pebbles)
CORE VALUES of people who can fit into the PebbleStorm world:
- Time: they can let go of the 'old notions' of time...that speed = success.
- Trust easily
- Passionate about something, anything
- Lack of ego (or at least their ego never gets in the way of relationships or projects)
-
EMERGENCE:
Emergent behavior can appear when a number of simple entities/agents operate in an environment, forming more complex behaviours as a collective.
What happens when people can work with who they want, on what they want, when they want? (And make more $ at it). When people can work purely from a place of passion and desire 80% of the time, instead of 20%? When you have a network of people and parties who trust each other and do business on handshakes, working on multiple projects over long periods of time?
- Titles and resumes become irrelevant...it's all about your talents, passions, network and other assets
- "Selling" goes away. You have talents, and people know what they are. When they need them, they'll find you.
- The term "work" begins to lose it's meaning...work has a historically negative connotation. What if you're always doing things you love? is that "work"? Or does it become "krow"? (;work' backwards)
